Case Study: MSCO
Case Study: Modelling, Simulation, Control and Optimization
Qualification aims
Concepts, methods and tools of the modules "Modelling and Simulation of Technical Processes" and "Advanced Process Control and Optimization" come together in this case study. Therefore, the full engineering cycle, which is necessary in order to solve control or optimization problems, can be trained.
The focus lies on the application of methods and tools of the modules "Modelling and Simulation of Technical Processes" and "Advanced Process Control and Optimization" to realistic sample problems, which are derived from actual and current research problems. By this way, methodical and technical competences of the students are accomplished.
The case study is carried out in a small team of three to five students. As a consequence, social competences can be further developed through the team oriented approach.

The case study team has to
- understand the technical or scientific problem,
- identify relevant previous work in the literature,
- develop solution approaches,
- verify and evaluate the solution approaches,
- select and realizse the best approach,
- write a report that describes the methods and the approach used, and
- present the work in a seminar.
