Modules
Communications
Industrial Communications
Qualification aims
The module makes students familiar with concepts, architectures and technologies of industrial communications. The module covers the full range of communication from real-time Ethernet networks to internet-based applications and remote access scenarios. The module emphasises on protocols and software and as well as on network infrastructure devices.
The students will
- comprehend the principles of various real-time Ethernet solutions and their applications in automation,
- understand the functionality of network devices
- use tools and devices to analyse and evaluate network traffic in real-time applications
- evaluate the pros and cons of various protocols,
- install and configure network devices,
- design and evaluate WLAN and mobile wireless solutions
- comprehend basic web technologies (client/server based software and protocols)
- evaluate web technologies for various applications such as visualisation and M2M communication
- develop and evaluate solutions for mobile clients
- integrate web based devices
