Industrial Communications

Qualification aims

The module makes students familiar with concepts, architectures and technologies of industrial communications. The module covers the full range of communication from real-time Ethernet networks to internet-based applications and remote access scenarios. The module emphasises on protocols and software and as well as on network infrastructure devices.

The students will

  • comprehend the principles of various real-time Ethernet solutions and their applications in automation,
  • understand the functionality of network devices
  • use tools and devices to analyse and evaluate network traffic in real-time applications
  • evaluate the pros and cons of various protocols,
  • install and configure network devices,
  • design and evaluate WLAN and mobile wireless solutions
  • comprehend basic web technologies (client/server based software and protocols)
  • evaluate web technologies for various applications such as visualisation and M2M communication
  • develop and evaluate solutions for mobile clients
  • integrate web based devices
