Case Study: SPES
Case Study: Signal Processing in Embedded Systems
Qualification aims
Concepts, methods and tools of the modules “Fundamentals of microcontroller programming”, “Fundamentals of digital signal processing” and “Numerical methods” form a basis for this case study. Therefore, the full design cycle of an embedded system for a given application will be trained.
The focus of this case study is on hardware driven implementation. This may include effective programming for microprocessor application and/or implementation of processing units in hardware (e.g. on FPGA). Selecting the most appropriate algorithm as well as the most effective implementation will be trained thoroughly. The application for the embedded system as well as the implementation of the subsystem are derived from current research problems.
The case study is carried out in a small team of three to five students.

The case study team has to
- understand the technical or scientific problem,
- identify relevant previous work in the literature,
- develop solution approaches,
- verify and evaluate the solution approaches,
- select and realizse the best approach,
- write a report that describes the methods and the approach used, and
- present the work in a seminar.
